The purpose of the position is to support client health and wellbeing needs presenting to the service by using advanced nursing skills and culturally responsive care to support the health and wellbeing outcomes of Aboriginal children and their families, who may experience barriers in accessing health services. The position coordinates care and service navigation for Level 2 and 3 families and liaises with partnership organisations and key stakeholders. The role supports career development opportunities to enhance specialisation and retention of nursing staff. The position acts as a resource and specialist within the field of Aboriginal Child & Family Health for both internal and external stakeholders. The position contributes to quality improvement activities and maintains a culture of safety and governance in Aboriginal Child & Family Health and the C&FH service. The role will be required to collaborate and work in partnership with other Statewide Building Stronger Foundations and New Directions services as well as local Aboriginal community organisations. As a Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialist Grade 2 in SESLHD you will provide individualised, case managed level 2‑3 client care and leadership for Aboriginal Child & Family Health to maximise the health outcomes for the clients. As a Clinical Nurse/ Midwife Specialist Grade 2 in SESLHD you will be recognised as a healthcare professional employing your clinical skills and critical thinking in delivering high quality patient care. You will exercise extended autonomy of decision making and professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills. As a Clinical Nurse/ Midwife Specialist Grade 2 you will lead the development of the nursing specialty clinical practice and service delivery in the service. You will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team in the provision of person‑centred care; and lead, support and supervise other nurses/ midwives and care roles. You will strive to ensure that the people who receive healthcare experience exceptional care that is person‑centred, safe, high quality and compassionate. Selection Criteria: Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse / Midwife, a current NSW Driver’s License and willingness to travel as required in role. Relevant post‑registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ recent experience working in the Child & Family Health clinical area with Priority Populations, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community, including an awareness of the issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and the provision of culturally appropriate care. Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations. Demonstrated skills in the development and facilitation of patient and carer education; and ability to mentor and coach nursing staff to enhance professional development. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others and competence in the use of health‑related information technology. Demonstrated experience in leading and initiating activities to improve clinical service delivery and patient clinical outcomes.
