Senior Risk and Compliance Manager (Energy Sector) A senior compliance advisor role supporting a major energy retailer through significant regulatory reform and customer-focused transformation programs. This pivotal role sits at the heart of regulatory transformation, providing second-line advisory and risk oversight during a period of significant change and major regulatory reforms. You will play an instrumental part in ensuring that customer protection, compliance risk controls, and regulatory obligations are embedded into every aspect of large-scale retail uplift programmes. What you’ll do Provide independent, risk-based second-line regulatory compliance advice to Customer Business Unit teams, ensuring all guidance aligns with the Compliance Management System (CMS) and current regulatory expectations. Deliver comprehensive oversight and constructive challenge across transformation programmes and regulatory reforms to ensure obligations, controls, and customer protections are fully integrated into design and delivery processes. Oversee the interpretation, documentation, and operationalisation of obligations and controls related to business unit operations and transformation work, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Review breaches arising specifically from supported programmes or reforms, ensuring thorough root cause analysis, CMS‑aligned documentation, and appropriate escalation through governance pathways. Identify, assess, and escalation compliance risks across projects and reforms in line with organisational risk appetite and CMS governance requirements. Contribute second‑line insights into project governance forums by participating in steering committees, supporting audit activities, and maintaining accurate oversight records. Build risk and compliance literacy within the Customer Business Unit by coaching teams on ownership of obligations, controls, and customer outcomes. Collaborate constructively with Line 1, Line 1.5, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and Enterprise Risk while maintaining independent challenge as part of the Three Lines of Defence model. Support readiness assessments for regulatory change implementation by reviewing obligations registers for accuracy and alignment with market rule changes. Promote a strong compliance culture by delivering practical guidance to transformation teams and reinforcing accountability for compliance outcomes. What you bring Demonstrated expertise in interpreting regulatory obligations within energy or similarly regulated sectors such as banking, infrastructure or utilities. Extensive experience providing second‑line regulatory compliance or risk oversight across large‑scale transformation programmes or major reforms. Proven ability to assess compliance risks thoroughly while analysing control design and providing clear independent challenge to first‑line functions. Familiarity with Compliance Management Systems (CMS), Three Lines of Defence (3LoD), ISO 37301 standards, and contemporary governance frameworks relevant to regulated industries. Strong written and verbal communication skills enabling translation of complex regulatory concepts into accessible guidance for diverse audiences. Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with a collaborative approach to building trusted relationships across senior leadership teams as well as technical specialists. High level of organisation, accountability, sound judgement, particularly when operating in fast‑evolving transformation environments requiring adaptability. Experience managing compliance training strategies as well as system requirements for board‑level reporting deliverables within enterprise settings. Tertiary qualifications in Law, Risk Management, Business Administration, Governance or related disciplines; minimum 8–10 years’ experience in relevant roles is essential. Working knowledge of digital tools such as Archer or similar compliance systems is advantageous.
