Job Title: Senior Communications Officer Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Employment type: Full-time Overview As a Senior Communications Advisor, you will serve as a trusted strategic communications lead within the Communications team. Your core responsibility is the delivery of high‑level, strategic communications advice and coordination, focusing on complex, high‑risk infrastructure projects across the metropolitan region. This role is vital for maintaining public confidence; you will develop a coordinated, proactive, and risk‑informed communications approach across all internal and external channels, protect and enhance the reputation of the Department and its major projects. Key Responsibilities Strategic stakeholder engagement and advocacy: Initiate, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with ministerial and departmental staff, government agencies, industry partners, community groups, and NGOs, acting as a key liaison. High‑risk communications strategy and execution: Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive communication and issues‑management strategies for major infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless messaging across all project milestones. Executive and crisis content development: Research, draft, and finalise high‑quality communication materials for executive and ministerial use, including media releases, correspondence, briefings, newsletters, display materials, and speech notes. Proactive risk and issue management: Maintain and disseminate up‑to‑date intelligence on projects, identify emerging communication trends and reputational risks, and provide mitigation strategies to leadership. Governance and network leadership: Provide strategic communication advice on complex issues management and executive correspondence, expand professional networks to ensure best practice in public‑sector communications. Skills and Qualifications Makes insightful decisions: Critically analyse voluminous and conflicting information, make timely decisions, and exercise sound judgment. Builds enduring relationships: Communicate with clarity and adjust message style for diverse high‑level stakeholders. Drives accountability and outcomes: Operate with urgency, ownership, and persistence to meet strategic objectives and project deadlines. Demonstrates sound governance: Adhere meticulously to public‑sector legislation, media protocols, and record‑keeping standards. Desirable requirements: Experience in infrastructure planning, delivery, or regulatory environments. Experience managing executive and ministerial correspondence within a complex public‑sector environment. Relevant tertiary qualification in Communications, Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
