Government schools – Melbourne Northern Suburbs VIC Job Summary The Librarian will manage the library’s collection, archives, digital resources, and support students and staff with research and reading services. This role involves staff management, resource budgeting, curriculum support, and the development of literacy programmes. Responsibilities Manage library staff, building, resources, equipment and budget. Ensure all resources are current, relevant, appropriate, and regularly updated (weeded) and catalogued. Manage acquisition, cataloguing and maintenance of library resources. Supervise audiovisual equipment and services and manage LMS Destiny, including cataloguing, record keeping and overdue notices. Plan and conduct library and research skills tutorials for students at all levels. Advise teaching staff on relevant resources to support the curriculum. Assist with the supervision of students in various situations as appropriate. Manage the school’s archives and electronic/web‑based resources, including ClickView. Support the implementation of library programmes and projects, including the production of the yearbook "The Benalta". Maintain and create displays and signage. Ensure compliance with the Public Records Act 1973 (Vic) regarding the creation, management and disposal of public records. Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal. Qualifications Graduate or postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Studies. Highly developed organisational and information technology skills, including a Library Management System (LMS) and ClickView. High‑level written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, capable of developing constructive relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader community. Working knowledge of children’s and young adult literature and secondary school curriculum, particularly the Victorian Essential Learning Standards, Australian Curriculum and VCE Study Designs. Prior experience or the capacity to deliver student and youth library services. Capacity to actively contribute to the development of the school’s educational programme and a broad range of activities as a member of the staff team. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and improvement of practice. Capacity to actively contribute to the development of the school’s educational programme and a broad range of activities as a member of the staff team. Demonstrated capacity to reflect upon and improve professional practice with a commitment to ongoing professional learning.
