Aboriginal Family Partnership Worker – Aboriginal Identified

Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community‑controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programmes. Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean and the Blue Mountains and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programmes. About the Position The Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP) is evidence‑based programme for women pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby. The Family Partnership Worker will work closely with Nurse Home Visitors and the identified families to ensure the effective operation of home visits, provide advice and assistance on a broad range of cultural issues and ensure the observance of appropriate cultural protocols. The worker will accompany Home Visiting Nurses on their visits, and will have a liaison role with other agencies and organisations. Responsibilities Assist in the planning and delivery of culturally appropriate home visit programmes, ensure cultural protocols are observed, liaison with agencies, and support families throughout the engagement process. Essential Criteria Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with local Aboriginal people. Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact Aboriginal people and communities. Experience in the provision of social support services and the ability to liaise and advocate on behalf of clients. Ability to work as part of a team. Experience in community participation and networking. Relevant tertiary qualifications. First Aid & CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain). A Certificate of Aboriginality. A Current National Police Check. A Current Working with Children Checks NSW. Valid Australian Driver’s Licence. COVID‑19 Vaccination and Booster information (or evidence of a valid medical exemption). Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history and current issues affecting lives of Aboriginal people. Benefits A competitive salary.
