Research Fellow in S/TEM (with beam blanker) Job Number: Location: Clayton campus Employment Type: Full-time Duration: 2-year fixed term appointment (with the possibility to extend for an additional year) Remuneration: $83,280 - $113,025 pa Level A (plus 17% employer superannuation) Monash University, Melbourne Australia, is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral research fellowship position in the School of Physics and Astronomy. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to conduct high quality research in the development and application of new transmission electron microscopy methods (STEM and/or TEM) using a beam blanker to solve important problems in materials science. The position will develop and apply methods using an aberration‑corrected FEG‑TEM with beam blanker and pixelated, single electron detector systems to deliver new information about beam‑sensitive materials and time‑dependent phenomena in condensed matter physics. The research fellowship will be part of a diverse, international research group led by Professor Joanne Etheridge and will enjoy a creative and collaborative environment for the development and application of electron microscopy methods, and, more broadly, in the physics of imaging and materials science. The position will work in close collaboration with Professor Jian‑Min Zuo, Director of the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy, which has a powerful suite of instrumentation, including the Thermo Scientific Spectra‑φ, an advanced S/TEM with beam blanker, multiple fast pixelated detectors and unique electron‑optical elements to optimise performance in S/TEM. It is located on the Clayton Campus in a dedicated electron microscopy building, specifically designed to provide exceptional mechanical, thermal and electromagnetic stability to optimise instrument performance. The successful applicant will have demonstrated understanding and knowledge in the theory and application of S/TEM and a PhD or equivalent qualification and will possess sound interpersonal skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
