First Nations Research Fellow(s) (Identified) – Digital Inclusion Research Projects The role is offered by RMIT University. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term position (until 30 June 2027) on a salary scale of Academic Level A‑D, plus 17 % superannuation and flexible working arrangements. Identified role for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, in accordance with Special Measures. Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, with possible remote or other campus work. About the project By the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision‑Making and Society (ADM+S) the research fellow will support the ‘Measuring Digital Inclusion for First Nations Australians’ project, funded by the Australian Government. The work will involve fieldwork, project deliverables, data governance, reporting and presentation of research findings and contribute to the Mapping the Digital Gap Phase 2 project across nine remote First Nations communities. Responsibilities Essential responsibilities include: Planning and coordinating complex research projects, ensuring timely delivery of milestones and managing budgets; Leading fieldwork and data collection in First Nations communities, including surveys and qualitative methods; Co‑delivering the Mapping the Digital Gap Phase 2 project, collaborating with First Nations partner organisations; Analysing and reporting quantitative and qualitative data, and preparing publications for high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals and internal stakeholders; Communicating findings through presentations, seminars, conferences and industry events. Qualifications Enrolled in or completed a PhD (Level A or B‑D) in a relevant discipline; Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations on complex research projects; Strong understanding of Indigenous issues and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively; Proven leadership in large research projects (Level D) with fieldwork management, budgeting and junior staff oversight; Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods and relevant software/tools; Excellent scholarly writing and publication record, including project reports and peer‑reviewed journals; Ability to work independently and contribute distinctive scholarly knowledge and real‑world outcomes. Other requirements Willingness to travel to regional and remote Australia for fieldwork; Must provide confirmation of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage; Successful applicant will be required to pass a Working with Children check and a National Police check.
