Department of Education WA – Upper Gascoyne WA This is a 12 month fixed term, full‑time position commencing Term 1, 2026 with possible extension (24 months). Situated in the Upper Gascoyne region of Western Australia, 40 km from Mount Augustus. Burringurrah Remote Community School (RCS) is 470 km east of Carnarvon and 300 km west of Meekatharra, with a community of around 150 people. The school has four classrooms, a well‑stocked library, and provides strong pastoral care including three meals to students per day. Facilities in Burringurrah include a shop, medical clinic, police station, a swimming pool (operational in warmer months), and fortnightly doctor fly‑in visits. Food is delivered by refrigerated truck fortnightly. The nearest business is a small store at Mount Augustus Tourist Park, 40 km away. Teachers will live in free GROH housing, with utilities (water, electricity, gas) included, and may receive additional incentives for remote teaching. The Role The successful applicant will teach students from Years 3 to Year 6 across varying academic levels. Primary school‑trained teachers with strong experience in literacy and numeracy, who can create engaging, hands‑on lessons, are encouraged to apply. RCS benefits from the Scaling Up Success program and offers weekly coaching sessions. A deep understanding of trauma’s impact on Aboriginal students is desirable; experience with Aboriginal students is not required but highly valued. The role values teachers who are passionate about improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for Aboriginal students, who are kind, caring, and able to build genuine relationships with students and families. Ideal candidates will have completed TeachWell or similar training and/or be competent in explicit literacy and numeracy instruction. Exceptional interpersonal skills, teamwork, initiative, and a friendly, collegial manner are essential. Key benefits include competitive salaries, flexible work arrangements, extensive training and career development, and attractive leave provisions: Remote Teaching Service Allowance of $20 870 per year District Allowance of $6 868 per year Temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $998 (see below) 12 % employer contributions to superannuation 12 weeks’ vacation leave (school holidays) 10 weeks Remote Teaching Service leave after six semesters, or 22 weeks after eight semesters Subsidised leave travel during major vacations Free GROH housing Free furniture relocation (support offered after completion of the contract) Long‑term furniture storage while in GROH accommodation Vehicle relocation Teachers and administrators at Burringurrah Remote Community School in 2026 are eligible for a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $998 (pa, gross – prorated for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff receive a portion of this payment upon commencement, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to receive the second payment. The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply.
