The Cancer Plasticity and Dormancy Program, led by A/Prof Christine Chaffer and Prof Peter Croucher, is one of seven strategic programs at the Garvan Institute.The Cancer Plasticity and Dormancy Program is focused on discovering the fundamental control mechanisms that regulate cancer cell dormancy and cancer relapse. Our goal is to develop tools to predict relapse and develop new treatments to stop relapse before it occurs. There is a focus on understanding relapse in cancers that spread to the skeleton including, multiple myeloma, breast and prostate cancer. The program has recently established the AllClear program, supported by a major collaborative research accelerator grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, to tackle cancer relapse in breast cancer. This is a major national and international collaborative program and flagship activity for the program.**THE OPPORTUNITY**We are seeking to appoint a Project Coordinator to support program wide activities. This is a newly created role required to support the program’s growth. We are looking for a person with strong organisational and communication skills, and with a thorough understanding of the medical research field. This position is ideal for someone who is highly proactive and is looking to expand their expertise in the research management space. The person will interact with a diverse range of people including researchers, clinicians, professional staff and local communities. The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Program Directors, Program Manager and Clinical Research Manager to progress the scientific and clinical research objectives of the program.**Salary: up to $100,000 depending on experience + 12% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)****Employment Type: 2 year fixed-term****SNAPSHOT OF BENEFITS*** Generous salary packaging to save you income tax on your wages thereby boosting your monthly take home pay (max. $15,900 general expenses + $2,650 meals/accom)* Ample opportunities for on-going training and development* Stimulating, diverse and highly international research environment* Flexible work arrangements e.g. start / finish times* 18 weeks paid parental leave for both parents including paid superannuation* A range of additional leave types to meet your personal needs including cultural leave, conference leave, community service and study leave* Discounted Health Insurance* Lifestyle discounts with our community partners**WHAT YOU WILL DO**The key responsibilities include:Research Management* Coordinate with the Program leadership team to prepare documentation e.g. progress reports, presentations, grant applications, board reports, human and animal research ethics committee applications.* Support the Program’s communications strategy, including website updates, and coordinate stakeholder engagement.* Survey Program operations to identify areas of development or potential risk, and work with the Program leadership to address those issues.* Update the Program Directors’ research profiles (biosketch, CV, ORCID) and grant management portal information.* Project coordination and collaboration* Provide support to the Program Manager and the Clinical Research Manager.* Work across multiple platforms (e.g., Google workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack).* Update trackers and project management tools to streamline communication and collaboration.* Oversee, prepare and implement team organisation and activities.* General administrative support* Coordinate diaries and arrange appointments, meetings and functions for the Program leadership team.* Facilitate communication across the Program, including preparing documents, emails, briefings to keep members informed, track activity and facilitate program’s progress.* Use institutional online management systems (human resources, procurement & finance) to coordinate job requisitions and changes, purchase order submission and expenses and track expenditure as per Directors' delegations.**ABOUT YOU**The key skills and experience include:Essential:* A degree in science, medicine or health discipline, with research experience.* Strong computer skills using Google workspace, Microsoft 365 and willingness to use any other software tools as required (e.g., Trello, Slack).* Detail orientated, clear thinking and willing to implement creative solutions.* Highly organised with a strong commitment to quality.* Team player who can work independently and thrives on a fast-paced, demanding environment.* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines; versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities.* Effective time management skills.* Exceptional written and verbal communication including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.* Experience with administrative tasks e.g.:* o managing multiple outlook calendars* o coordinating meetings effectively* o managing/supporting multidisciplinary teamsDesirable:* PhD in science, medicine or health discipline* Experience working or coordinating large and complex projects**ABOUT GARVAN**Garvan Institute of Medical Research is an independent Medical Research Institute (MRI) in Sydney, delivering scientific and clinical impact on a global basis and in partnership with organisations that share our vision.
