The Role We are seeking Special Needs Education Assistants that enjoy being part of a team, showing commitment in making a positive impact in students’ lives. The ideal applicants should be flexible and collaborative to work alongside teachers, leadership members and peers to support a strong learning culture. In addition, it is highly desirable that suitable applicants are reflective and open to feedback, coaching and continuous growth. Responsibilities Support the implementation of individual and small group learning plans, including modelling, prompting, and guided practice. Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of resources and the learning environment. Assist with the care, supervision, and wellbeing of students during class, play, and excursions. Support students with physical, social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Assist with personal care routines and therapy programs where required. Qualifications & Skills Strong ability to promote active and positive learning. Contribute to a positive school culture. Commitment to building positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Capacity to provide both individualised support and contribute effectively in whole‑class settings. Eligibility Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start. Application Instructions Step 1: Apply for Job Complete the online application form, including details of two (2) work‑related referees, preferably one (1) being your current line manager. Step 2: Attach your documents Your application should include: A CV of up to two (2) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position. A three (3) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF. Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals. Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented. Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists. Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs. Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents. Ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
