Retail Property Australia is being established, and your role of Senior Policy Advisor, will be to help drive the success of the organisation from startup mode onwards. You will have a diverse role, assisting in setting up the organisation, providing excellent engagement with members, supporting State retail committees, identifying and driving responses to relevant policy and media issues and assisting in communication strategy and tasks. It will provide unrivalled access to leaders within the retail property industry and given the retail sector’s strong connections within the community and wider economy, cover a diversity of issues. This role can be located in our Sydney or Melbourne office Some of the key responsibilities include Support the Executive Director, Retail Property Australia in key strategic areas including powerful advocacy, thought leadership on key public policy challenges. Monitor the legislative and political process and prepare submissions to all levels of government in key areas including planning reform, sustainability, productivity, privacy and competition and leasing legislation. Develop policy positions to put to Federal, State and Territory and Local government incorporating strong member input. Administer where needed and attend relevant member committees including State retail committees and Division Council. Provide support to Executive Director, Retail Property Australia and State leads to document strategic policy and research priorities for member committees. Attend and assist with events as needed. Take responsibility for drafting high quality correspondence to politicians, political candidates and other key stakeholders. Develop materials to support events, including blurbs, speeches, letters of invitation and reviews. Draft communications material for input to Retail Property Australia communications, media releases, articles, website content, social media etc. Ideally you will have 2-5 years’ experience in policy and/or advocacy. Skilled at pro-actively identifying issues that require organisation involvement. Understanding of the political process and the strategic planning challenges facing Australia. Ability to manage issues and projects. Demonstrated record of preparing structured reports and policy documents. Strong research and analytical skills. Good verbal communication and negotiation skills. Ability to work in a small team environment and be able to develop effective relationships internally and externally. Ability to be self-motivated, to work on your own with limited supervision. Ability to undertake multiple tasks at the same time and meet competing deadlines.
