Eligibility Open to Everyone Courts Administration Authority The Courts Administration Authority is constituted by the Courts Administration Act. The Act established the State Courts Administration Council as an administrative authority independent of control by executive government and to confer on the Council power to provide courts with the administrative facilities and services necessary for the proper administration of justice. Participating courts of the Authority are the Supreme Court, District Court, Environment, Resources and Development Court, Youth Court, Magistrates Court, and the Coroner's Court. About The Sheriff's Office The Sheriff is a statutory officer appointed pursuant to the Sheriff's Act on the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The Sheriff's Office was first established by the Supreme Court Act, which provided that the Court should have Ministerial and other officers for the administration of justice in the Court, and for the execution of judgments and other orders. The Sheriff has in excess of 150 uniformed officers trained in all aspects of the work of the Sheriff, including provision of emergency services, security, prisoner security and in‑court support. The Sheriff also has approximately 40 Enforcement Sheriff's Officers who serve and execute civil and criminal orders throughout South Australia. You will provide security and customer service to court users across the Adelaide Metropolitan Area. Full comprehensive training is provided. Summary of Role Sheriff's Officers contribute to the provision of a high level of client services to all court users and to the overall security of Courts Administration Authority facilities, administrative personnel, members of the judiciary and other court users. There are three main components to the role of Sheriff's Officer: Operational Safety and Security, In Court Support and Prisoner Security. In Court Support Sheriff's Officers keep order within the courtroom and attend to the needs of witnesses and other persons having business before the court. Duties are varied depending on the jurisdiction of the court. Prisoner Security Sheriff's Officers provide a custodial prisoner security service for the operation of the Supreme Court and District Court criminal sittings within the Sir Samuel Way Building. Operational Safety and Security Sheriff's Officers provide a high level of customer service to all court users and to the overall security of Courts Administration Authority facilities, administrative personnel, members of the judiciary and other court users. May be required to work in alternate locations at the discretion of the Sheriff or due to the requirements of the courts. Legal & Compliance Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Public Sector Act. This role is identified as a Prescribed Position and the successful applicant is required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to employment with CAA, which must be renewed every five years before expiry. WWCC can be obtained through the Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Unit. Appointment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory. As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
