Mental Health Clinician – Intake and Assessment The Royal Children’s Hospital’s (RCH) Vision is “A world where all kids thrive”. The Hospital supports a workforce of over 6,000 staff and serves more than 300,000 specialist clinic appointments and 90,000 emergency presentations annually. About The Role This full‑time fixed term position (until November 2026) fills a parental leave back‑fill in the Intake and Assessment Team of the Mental Health Department. Based at RCH Parkville, the clinician will provide face‑to‑face and telephonic triage, assessment and brief intervention to infants, children and young people aged 0‑11 and their families. The role also involves consultation with internal teams, external organisations and community agencies to promote collaboration, build capacity and facilitate service coordination. Responsibilities Key duties include: Conduct triage, comprehensive assessment and intervention for children aged 0‑11 and their families. Provide consultancy to hospital teams and external service providers to optimise care pathways. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (including occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists and psychiatric nurses) to deliver integrated care. Engage in quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives. Qualifications Tertiary qualification or equivalent in a related discipline. Current registration as an occupational therapist, psychologist, registered nurse (within the EBA framework), social worker or speech pathologist. Demonstrated clinical skills and significant experience in child and adolescent mental health care. Ability to practice autonomously and within an interdisciplinary team. Experience building and maintaining working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Commitment to evidence‑based practice, continuing professional development and the application of evidence in decision‑making. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. Awareness of legal obligations when working in a CAMHS context in Victoria and a flexible, adaptable approach to teamwork. About The Department RCH Mental Health is a Level 5 tertiary infant, child and family area service, comprising community and hospital‑based teams across multiple locations.
