UQHC operates multidisciplinary primary health care centres with teams of experienced GPs, nurses, allied health practitioners and specialists dedicated to providing compassionate care and service, and the highest quality, integrated, multi-disciplinary healthcare. UQ Health Care is establishing a new Neurodevelopmental Assessment Clinic to improve access to high-quality, trauma-informed assessment services for children, young people, and their families in partnership with the Qld Government's Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a service grounded in evidence-based practice, cultural safety, and the new National Child Safe Standards . The new UQHC Neurodevelopmental Clinic is the successful translation of a clinical research project & service jointly delivered by the University Queensland's Health, Medicine and Behavioural Science Faculty and Children's Health Queensland for children with confirmed or suspected prenatal alcohol exposure and/or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) through The Perinatal and Early Life Exposures Group of the Children's Health Research Centre. Duty Statement The Neurodevelopmental Assessment Clinic is a holistic interprofessional service model led by allied health clinicians and integrated with specialist care and cultural engagement. It will deliver comprehensive assessments across a 5‑year period (Nov – Oct) and support plans for young people aged interacting with the Youth Justice System, suspected of living with an undiagnosed neurodevelopmental condition, across the Brisbane, Moreton Bay & South East regions. This Fixed Term Full Time Cultural Lead & Clinic Coordinator position will provide cultural leadership, ensure culturally safe & appropriate service delivery, coordinate clinic operations, and uphold Child Safety Standards across each young person's journey through the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Clinic. Supporting trauma‑informed engagement with diverse families and embedding the Universal Principle within all aspects of the clinic are inherent to this role. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Lead the development and embedding of culturally safe practices across the clinic. Coordinate clinic operations including scheduling, referral management and stakeholder liaison. Provide cultural insights that enhance clinical assessment, interpretation, case formulation and recommendations. Ensure cultural considerations are embedded into all Child Safety Standard requirements (including environmental safety, child voice, transparency, family inclusion, and mandatory reporting). Represent the cultural voice within leadership, planning and governance groups. Build and maintain trusted relationships with cultural communities, organisations, Elders and family leaders. Facilitate culturally informed pathways for referral, engagement and follow‑up. Support families—especially from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally diverse backgrounds—to safely access assessments. Advocate for the child and family's cultural needs, preferences and rights. Provide culturally informed coordination to reduce system barriers for disadvantaged or vulnerable families. Develop and support maintaining clear pathways between the clinic and community services (health, education, disability, youth, cultural support). Participate in capacity building training sessions for local service providers to effectively interact with the NDAC and/or complete screening of young people who may require a neurodevelopmental assessment. Participate, if requested, in research projects related to clinical practice and evaluation of the neurodevelopmental assessment clinic including but not limited to: lead cultural safety audits, feedback processes and quality improvement activities; collect and interpret cultural engagement data to inform service redesign; and support evaluation of cultural appropriateness in assessments and care pathways. Facilitate yarning circles, cultural learning sessions, or community‑led education. Support, and at times lead, interprofessional student work integrated and project‑based learning opportunities including through culturally responsive training and engagement. Always ensure a safe training/working environment for all young people, families, staff and students. Other duties as required or directed by the Clinical Manager consistent with the Cultural Lead & Clinic Coordinator skills and qualifications. A demonstrated understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, organisations and the issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia meeting their aspirations for their communities and families. Experience in cultural leadership or community engagement roles. Knowledge of trauma‑informed and culturally safe practice. Strong organizational and coordination skills . Understanding of Child Safety Standards, The Universal Principle and safeguarding responsibilities. All staff must hold a current Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or be eligible to obtain one prior to commencement. Current Qld Driver's License. Experience in healthcare or community service settings. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families highly regarded. Experience working with young persons and other stakeholders in the youth justice context. Reporting Relationships This position reports to the Clinical & Operations Manager – NDAC.
