The Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) is an Administrative Office under the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) portfolio reporting to the Minister for Skills and TAFE. VSA provides evidence-based planning and solutions to meet current and future skills needs, and generate place-based solutions for local problems, promoting quality improvement across the vocational education and training sector in Victoria. The VSA's purpose is to build strong, active connections between industry, training providers, government, and communities, with the new Victorian Skills Plan providing data and insights to ensure the right skills are developed and ready at the right time.The purpose of the VSA Advisory Board is to collaborate with VSA creating shared purpose and direction for Victoria's skills system. It drives and monitors the skills system's long-term strategy and development and maintains a focus on the workforces needed to support the broader Victorian Government economic recovery and growth agenda.About the role
The Advisory Board Members’ responsibilities include:Long-term strategic direction of the skills and training sector, maximising outcomes from the State’s investmentStrategic input into the next phase of reforms in response to industry and community needsThe development of the Victorian Skills Plan to ensure it takes into account current and future needsMaintaining a focus on the delivery of the skills and training requirements to support government priority workforcesProviding strategic advice on approaches to enhancing industry and employer input into the skills sector to maximise alignment of delivery to current and future workforce needsInnovation and innovative practices in business and how this can be adopted in curriculum development and delivery by the skills sectorThe relevance, quality, and equity of the Victorian training systemAny other matters referred by the MinisterThe Chairperson and Advisory Board Members will be appointed and receive reasonable remuneration in accordance with the Victorian Government’s Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.Appointments are made for a 3-year term and require attendance at 8 Boards Meetings annually with additional time commitments aligned to the responsibilities of the role.The Chairperson and Advisory Board Members will be appointed and receive reasonable remuneration in accordance with the Victorian Government’s Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.Who we're looking for

Applicants are also expected to be senior leaders in their organisations.Significant and contemporary knowledge and expertise across the intersection of industry and vocational education and training and higher educationDirect representation and/or lived experience of the perspective and needs of specific communities, including for example, First Peoples, those facing specific barriers (such as disability, neurodiversity), Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Victorians, and Victorians living in regional, rural or remote areasDemonstrated professional experience in workforce development and planning mattersProven relevant network and stakeholder relationshipsStrategy and policy development capabilityAbility to identify and interpret new and emerging issues, and provide expert adviceDemonstrated ability to build and promote productive and collaborative relationshipsInnovation and change mindset.Chair / Deputy ChairSuitable candidates for the Chair will be assessed against the criteria for members.
