Job Title: Work Health and Safety Assurance Manager Job Details Employment Type: Permanent Full Time, 38 hours per week Location: SWSLHD District Wide Service – Based at Eastern Campus, Liverpool Position Classification: Health Manager – Level 4 Remuneration: $147,653.00 – $175,917.00 per annum Requisition ID: REQ Application Close Date: 11/01/2026 Interview Date Range: 14/01/2026 – 21/01/2026 Contact Details: About the Opportunity South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) seeks a capable Work Health and Safety (WHS) Assurance Manager to lead strategic improvements in workplace safety across a complex and evolving health environment. The role is central to embedding a proactive, systems‑based approach that supports safer outcomes for staff, patients, and the broader community. What You'll Be Doing The Work Health and Safety Assurance Manager will: Provide expert advice and operational oversight on WHS matters, focused on construction and engineering health and safety. Lead risk assessments, site inspections, Safety in Design reviews and issue work permits (confined spaces, working at heights). Support project teams and people leaders with practical guidance, training and reporting to foster a proactive safety culture. Manage WHS data systems, escalating risks to senior leadership and ensuring alignment with NSW Health strategies. Partner with the WHS Unit and Capital Works and Infrastructure (CWI) team to ensure compliance across all projects and operational environments. Ideal Candidate Qualities Tertiary qualifications in WHS and / or extensive professional experience in construction WHS. Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Proven ability to manage contractor WHS in high‑risk environments. Skilled in developing and implementing WHS systems, training programmes, inspections and audits. Role Requirements Must hold a valid Australian C‑Class driver’s licence (NSW licence required within 3 months if from another state). Working With Children Check and National Police Check required. Compliance with NSW Health immunisation policies. Availability for site visits and inspections during standard business hours; flexibility required. Travel across the district required. How to Apply To be considered for this position, please answer the following questions in your application: Relevant tertiary qualifications in WHS or related field and/or extensive professional experience in WHS in the construction or adjacent industries within a large geographically dispersed organisation. Describe a time when you led a WHS project or initiative in a construction or engineering work environment. What was the outcome, how did you measure success, and what improvement opportunities were identified? Given the dual reporting lines and cross‑functional nature of this role, how would you prioritise tasks and maintain effective communication with both WHS and Capital Works and Infrastructure leadership? Applicants must possess an Australian C‑Class driver’s licence (including P1 or P2). Those holding a C class licence from a state other than NSW must obtain an NSW C class licence within three months of appointment. Learner's licences are not permitted. Eligibility To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
