Swinburne University is seeking a Legal Counsel (Research & Advisory) to provide expert legal services that underpin our highly respected research portfolio and support the delivery of our ambitious Ad Astra Strategy to 2030. Responsibilities Advise on complex research projects including cooperative research centres, large-scale industry collaborations, consortia agreements, and other strategic partnerships. Safeguard Swinburne’s interests by ensuring legal frameworks protect and promote the success of cutting-edge research initiatives. Collaborate across the University, working closely with Research Services and stakeholders to deliver streamlined, effective legal processes. Enhance legal systems and agreements, ensuring they remain contemporary, efficient, and aligned with Swinburne’s values and objectives. Embrace technology to improve service delivery and drive innovation in legal operations. You will bring strong experience in delivering legal advice on complex commercial and research-related matters, coupled with the ability to engage confidently with both internal and external stakeholders as a trusted adviser. Your proactive approach to streamlining processes and leveraging technology will help drive efficiency and innovation across legal operations. About You Previous experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating research contracts and other research-related agreements. Experience in advising on management of contracts and dispute resolution. Experience in providing legal advice in a complex regulatory environment. Excellent organisation and proven ability to ensure effective prioritisation of completion of multiple tasks within deadlines. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with the capacity to understand the audience, tailoring all forms of correspondence, documentation, and client service delivery to meet organisational needs and standards. Qualifications Admission to practice as an Australian legal practitioner with, or with eligibility to obtain, a current practising certificate.
