Research Fellow - Health Economist Join to apply for the Research Fellow - Health Economist role at UNSW. Employment Details Employment type: Full‑time (35 hours a week) Duration: 3‑year fixed term, with potential for extension Remuneration: $127,947 – $150,831 base, plus 17 % superannuation and leave loading Visa sponsorship: UNSW welcomes international candidates willing to relocate to Australia and who can provide visa sponsorship for the right candidate, subject to merit‑based selection Location: Hybrid; on‑site minimum 3 days a week at UNSW's Kensington Campus, NSW, Australia About The Kirby Institute The Kirby Institute is a world‑leading health research institute at UNSW Sydney focused on eliminating infectious diseases globally. Our specialisation is in developing health solutions for the most at‑risk communities, putting communities at the heart of our research to develop tests, treatments, cures and prevention strategies with the greatest chance of success. Role Details The Research Fellow (Health Economist) works in partnership with economists, epidemiologists, mathematical modellers and social scientists to evaluate public health interventions targeting infectious diseases, with a major focus on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affecting Africa and the Pacific. Responsibilities include: Conducting cost‑effectiveness and budget impact assessments alongside trials and programmatic implementation of mass drug administration regimens, including moxidectin aimed at controlling or eliminating several NTDs (e.g. onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis) Evaluating different financing mechanisms for sustainable investment in NTDs Co‑leading economic evaluations alongside trials of health interventions, using STATA or R software Modeling long‑term health outcomes and costs of public health interventions Ensuring the quality, integrity and security of project datasets Training and managing field teams in Australia and overseas study sites Communicating findings through project reports, conference presentations and peer‑reviewed publications, including as lead author Reporting to the head of the Health Economics and Health Systems Research Group; no direct reports Essential Key Skills PhD degree or equivalent in health economics, public health, economics or a related discipline with substantial experience in the design or evaluation of public health interventions Experience undertaking economic evaluations and budget impact assessments of public health interventions Experience leading or co‑leading economic evaluations with trials of health interventions using STATA or R software Experience modelling long‑term health outcomes and costs of public health interventions Ability to oversee and ensure the quality, integrity and security of project datasets Ability to assist in the training and management of field teams based in different study sites in Australia and overseas Strong research output, evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications, scientific presentations and involvement in securing research funding Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to diverse audiences Desired Key Skills Experience evaluating interventions targeting neglected tropical diseases Experience working in low‑and middle‑income countries and/or resource‑constrained settings Experience mentoring project staff and supervising higher‑degree students Pre‑Employment Checks Verification of qualifications Benefits 17 % superannuation and leave loading Flexible working arrangements Additional 3 days of leave over the Christmas period Access to lifelong learning and career development Progressive HR practices Application Process Please click the Apply now button to apply online.
