Finance Officers (APS4–EL1) Canberra Located Baseline Security Clearance Initial 12-Month Non-ongoing Arrangement With 2x 6-Month Extensions The Job Our government client is expanding its Financial Operations team and is seeking Finance Officers from APS4 to EL1 to support a modern, high-performing finance function. Roles exist across accounts, payroll, debt management, and financial systems. You will contribute to the delivery of accurate, timely and compliant financial services, supporting day-to-day operations and the transition of key finance activities to an in-house model. Depending on level, you'll assist, coordinate, or lead financial operations, provide financial advice, support system improvements, and engage with internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities vary by level but may include: Processing accounts payable and receivable, banking, receipting and vendor / customer data management. Supporting payroll operations including salaries, allowances, deductions and entitlements. Assisting with credit card program management and financial controls. Contributing to audit readiness, risk management and quality assurance. Developing SOPs and supporting the transition from shared services. Providing financial advice and supporting governance processes. Maintaining and supporting financial systems (APS6–EL1). Preparing briefs and supporting senior leadership (APS6–EL1). Leading and mentoring staff (EL1). Key Capabilities A current baseline security clearance. Sound understanding of financial operations, accounting processes or payroll. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to interpret policy, legislation and financial frameworks. Problem‑solving, initiative and a continuous improvement mindset. Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Leadership and strategic capability (APS6–EL1).
