The Head of Department, Student Engagement with a focus on Wellbeing will bepassionate about driving a collaborative culture of learning, and supporting teachers and support staff to best meet the needs of our students, through a culture of collegial engagement and feedback.
They will work collaboratively with the Leadership Team in leadingstaff to develop their knowledge and skills to drive school improvement, and ultimately lead to student success. This will occur through the lens of the Australian Curriculum as well as the school’s signature pedagogies, focusing on improving student outcomes.Coomera State Special School supports learners across years Prep to Year 12 in the growing area of Coomera. Aligned to these values, the vision for the school supports the following statements -A culture of high expectations with a strong belief that every student can learn when provided with a dynamic and fun learning environment that supports the individual needs of all students.Comprehensive Literacy, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) are our signature pedagogies used to enact the Australian Curriculum.Intentional collaborative practices, data-based decision making and feedback is the way of working for all staff.Strong commitment to family and community engagement is a key focus of the school.About YouAs a lead learner, they will need to have a strong relational capability to quickly develop positive relationships between students, staff and the wider school community. They will have well developed strategic thinking and analytical skills to contribute to our school improvement agenda.Experience as a leader in implementing school-wide processes that are underpinned by a comprehensive teaching and learning support framework is sought, with demonstrated experience in enacting the Australian Curriculum, and capability in leading people to enact the pedagogies of Comprehensive Literacy and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) as well as supporting the needs of students with complex communication through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).About the RoleYou will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:Intentionally collaborate and consult with a range of stakeholders, both within and external to the school, to ensure everyone is goal oriented and focused on student success.Be an active member of the PBL committee, assisting the decrease in severity and rate of major behaviour incidents by implementing comprehensive intervention support plans with classroom teams.Support and build teacher capacity in trauma informed practices, Essential Skills for Classroom Management, Zones of Regulation, Restorative Practice processes, Tier 2 & 3 strategies and performing functional behaviour assessments.Develop and support the implementation of Individual Behaviour Support Plans and Risk Management Assessments for Tier 2 and 3 students after Functional Behaviour Assessments and consultations.Lead case management discussions and provide universal supports to staff, enabling the success of every student.Support transition processes for new students, ensuring both staff and student are supported to facilitate a successful transition.Share ideas and support the growth of staff capacity to implement evidence-based strategies at a whole of class and individual level.Increasing student and social and emotional wellbeing by using research-based programs appropriate to the students' needs.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.How to ApplyPlease attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history); andA 2-pg response to the How you will be Assessed section of the attached role description.We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).We are committed to building inclusive cultures in the Queensland public sector that respect and promote human rights
