Essentials Corner Volunteer - creating a memorable 'shopping' experience for the homeless About the role The Essentials Corner Volunteer is responsible for providing a positive and welcoming 'shopping' experience for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. You will empower dignity of choice for those who need essential items such as clothes and shoes through our donated clothing. Duties include but are not limited to: Greet Participants. Participants will be provided tokens at reception to exchange for essential items. Provide a warm, welcoming and positive shopping experience. Stock preparation – ensure clothing/shoes are stocked for the shift. Refill display areas as required. Visual merchandising – ensure clothing is neatly presented and stored in relevant sizing. Rotate clothing as required (i.e., with change of season). Fold/return items to shelves/hanger. Collect data from each shift. Collaborate with reception and warehouse volunteer team, as required. We are looking for volunteers who: Possess excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels. Have experience in retail (paid or volunteer) or love fashion and helping people. Are resilient, patient and non-judgmental. Are reliable and punctual. Be committed to working in accordance with 3rd Space values of respect, dignity, perseverance and integrity. Have an awareness and/or commit to finding out the historical and contemporary issues that impact First Nations people (e.g. intergenerational trauma, closing the gap). Be willing to go the extra mile, show initiative (within scope of role) and treat each person as an individual. Perform calmly in a fast‑paced environment and stressful situations including critical incidents relating to alcohol and other drugs, mental health issues and medical issues. Practice self‑care and have the capacity to ask for support for themselves as needed. Be able to work within the parameters of the volunteer role, policies and procedures and respect professional boundaries. Please note, this role is based in an undercover courtyard (outside) onsite. Who are we? 3rd Space is a day‑time drop‑in centre where people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Brisbane can find support, dignity and hope. We have been supporting the community for 50 years through the dignity of a hot shower, cafe‑style meals as well as access to medical, mental health, law, tenancy, employment, and other services. Category Homeless Commitment Regular – more than 6 months Type Of Work Retail & Sales Time Required We require two volunteers per shift. Shifts are available Monday‑Friday 8:00am‑1:00pm. Weekly, fortnightly and monthly shifts are available. Training Induction and training provided. Ongoing training and development.
