The organisation's strategic priorities include: Putting people and culture at the heart of everything Delivering excellent services Building strong partnerships Investing in better tools and systems for high-quality outcomes About the Role The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) leads the Finance Branch and is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership, governance and advice across the organisation. This executive role works closely with the Director-General, Deputy Director-General and senior leadership team, supporting the delivery of major infrastructure programs and ensuring strong financial stewardship. The CFO plays a critical role in: Financial strategy, planning and reporting Budget development and management Financial controls, governance and compliance Supporting evidence-based decision making Improving financial systems, processes and capabilities Strengthening partnership and collaboration across government Leading and developing a high-performing finance team Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership across all financial functions, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, frameworks and policies. Deliver accurate, timely and compelling financial insights and evidence-based advice. Support executive leaders to plan, manage and understand their financial responsibilities. Lead the directorate's planning, budgeting and forecasting processes. Oversee financial reporting, financial statements, internal controls and financial systems. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across financial and corporate activities. Represent the organisation at whole-of-government forums and committees. Build, mentor and lead the Finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. Provide briefings to senior executives and ministers on financial matters as required. Contribute to budget business cases and infrastructure-related financial assessments. Ensure strong stakeholder relationships and promote collaborative ways of working. Job-Specific Requirements Finance Management: Extensive senior-level experience delivering financial leadership in a government or complex delivery environment. Problem Solving: Ability to think strategically, manage complexity, innovate, and work effectively under pressure. Risk Management: Demonstrated experience identifying financial risks and developing mitigation strategies. Government Processes: Strong understanding of financial management in the public sector, including procurement, records management and probity.
