Austral Fisheries, one of Australia’s leading commercial fishing companies, is seeking two full-time qualified tradesmen to join our Northern Prawn Fishery team. About the Opportunity Based in Cairns, these positions offer an exciting opportunity to step into the marine engineering field, working within a small, supportive operational team and reporting directly to the Engineering Superintendent. This is a shore-based position with occasional short trips to sea to support vessel operations, maintenance, breakdown response, and to help you build the sea time required to obtain your Marine Engine Driver 2 (MED2) qualification. If you hold a trade qualification in any of the following fields, we want to hear from you: Electrical Automotive Mechanic What You’ll Gain You’ll work across a broad range of marine systems, including: Electrical Hydraulic systems Propulsion Pumps and plumbing General ship superstructure and maintenance You’ll also have genuine opportunities to develop management and leadership skills, as well as exposure to other sectors of Austral’s operations. Training & Qualifications Austral Fisheries is committed to your professional growth. If you’re early in your career, keen to learn, and eager to expand your skill set, this role offers unique exposure across multiple marine engineering disciplines - well beyond the typical scope of your current trade We provide: Support to obtain your MED2 certification (once sea time requirements are met) Elevated Work Platform (EWP) training Confined Space training Working at Heights Any other additional training relevant to the role. 40 hour working week plus overtime opportunities during refit periods, sea trips, and operations in Karumba. Flexibility to receive paid overtime or accrue time off in lieu for extra hours worked. Access to company vehicles for work purposes.
