Job Description Role required from 12 January 2026 to 3 July 2026. Commuter use vehicle available with role. Key Responsibilities Assist the Team Leader in the timely completion of programmes and works associated with maintenance and construction duties. Record and report daily/weekly work activities to the Manager Operations. Maintain parks, gardens, recreation reserves, town streetscapes and roadsides. Construct and maintain grassed areas, mowing in streets and parks, and slashing of roadsides. Construct and maintain garden beds, landscape features and irrigation systems. Carry out road maintenance and construction duties as required. Conduct on‑road and off‑road inspections. Repair or replace Council’s footpaths, kerbs and channels. Clean public conveniences. Ensure all works comply with relevant OH&S guidelines, including installation of warning signs, safety lights, barricades and completion of risk assessments and JSA’s. Operate Council’s plant and equipment safely and return them to the depot or secure storage at shift end. Carry out minor repairs to assigned plant and equipment. General Duties Participate in Council’s after‑hours emergency call‑out phone and duty roster and public convenience cleaning roster. Maintain strict confidentiality on matters that may affect Council’s ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and/or contractors. Staff Supervision In the absence of the Team Leader, oversee staff and work programmes, acting as Team Leader during periods of leave. Assign staff, allocate resources and oversee work performance of the allocated maintenance team. Prepare and present attendance records, timesheets and other related matters accurately and timely. Participate in knowledge/skills developmental training or OH&S training as directed. Identify and report staff training needs; ensure compliance with apprenticeship training requirements. High understanding of OHS requirements and safe working practices. Ability to undertake general repairs and maintenance to plant and equipment. Essential Qualifications and Experience A relevant formal qualification in Horticulture at Certificate IV level or above. Basic Microsoft Office computer training. Relevant experience in Parks & Gardens maintenance. Desirable Qualifications and Experience First Aid/CPR. Traffic Control. Chemical handling. Spotters. Construction induction card. Chainsaw, pole saw and tree felling skills. Load and unload goods/cargo. Fire ground training. Traffic management. Confined spaces. Managing WHS hazards associated with plant.
