Department of Education WA – Australind WA We are seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. Australind Senior High School (SHS) is located north of Bunbury with easy access to the wider Southwest region. Australind SHS is one of the most successful schools in the Southwest region, with a strong history of outstanding success for our students in both Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways. The school has a student population of 1200, which creates many opportunities for students and teachers. We are committed to continuous improvement in teaching and learning through reflective practice with a focus on Quality Teaching and Learning, as detailed in our business plan. At Australind SHS, as a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school, the care we offer each and every student defines our purpose. We have a strong and supportive student wellbeing structure which has been established to ensure all our students are well cared for socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. The Australind community is widespread and diverse with 600 of the 1200 students attending school by bus each day from Harvey, Brunswick Junction, Binningup and a range of other localities within the Harvey Shire. We have a dedicated school Board which supports our traditions, such as wearing full school uniform, and the school ethos 'Through Endeavour, Success'. The Role Australind SHS is seeking highly motivated, dedicated and proactive Student Support Officers to join our Student Services team. You will work as part of the Student Services Team to provide pastoral care support to students (both individually and in groups) in a range of settings, encouraging student attendance and achievement at school through providing an environment that nurtures emotional, physical, academic, and mental health and wellbeing of all students within a cohort. Our students’ wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us. We are a community with a range of services in place to ensure our students are happy, healthy, feel safe and able to learn effectively. As a Student Support Officer, you will also be responsible for developing intervention strategies which provide a responsive and effective support system for students, including developing preventative programs. Student Support Officers are responsible for developing links between students, family and the school and as such, knowledge of the youth sector and associated agencies is desirable, as is experience as a youth worker/Student Support Officer. The successful applicant will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and be able to prioritise to ensure tasks are completed within set deadlines or as directed. Experience with high-level, precise record-keeping and note-taking, particularly in documenting on Compass, is highly desirable. Ideal candidates will also have strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage effectively with all stakeholders. Demonstrated skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
