Safety and Compliance Manager (Electrical & Solar) Ready to take charge in a high-growth electrical and solar business? We’re looking for a Sharp Safety & Compliance Manager to lead WHS, compliance and culture across commercial and residential solar/electrical operations. You’ll own the systems, the audits, the proactive risk-control, and be the driving force behind safer, smarter sites from Brisbane through SEQ/Northern NSW. About the Role The Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading, maintaining, and continuously improving the organisation’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) and compliance systems across electrical, solar, and metering operations. This role ensures compliance with statutory safety, quality, and environmental obligations while fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and care within both field and office teams. The position plays a key role in supporting operational excellence through proactive risk management, ongoing education, and alignment with industry standards and company policies. Key Responsibilities WHS & Compliance Leadership Develop, implement, and maintain WHS policies, procedures, and safe work systems specific to electrical, solar, and battery installation activities. Ensure compliance with the Electrical Safety Act 2002 (Qld), Electrical Safety Regulation 2013, AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 4777.1, AS/NZS 5139, and relevant Codes of Practice. Maintain alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 principles. Act as the internal compliance lead during audits, inspections, and accreditation processes. Risk and Field Safety Management Conduct and review risk assessments, SWMS, JSEAs, Toolbox Talks, and Take 5s. Develop and maintain hazard registers and corrective actions. Coordinate site inspections and safety walks. Oversee lone-worker protocols, isolation procedures, and permit-to-work systems. Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring root cause identification and corrective actions. Maintain incident registers and regulatory reporting. Facilitate learning reviews and toolbox sessions. Training, Competency & Licensing Maintain a training and competency register for all workers. Verify licenses and certifications. Coordinate inductions and refresher training. Support toolbox talks and safety communications. Contractor & Subcontractor Compliance Maintain compliance records for subcontractors. Conduct site audits and reviews of contractor safety performance. Ensure third-party workers follow WHS management system requirements. Administer the Integrated Management System (IMS). Contribute to quality assurance processes and job close-out audits. Manage corrective action and improvement registers. Reporting & Communication Prepare monthly WHS and compliance performance reports. Present insights, trends, and recommendations to leadership. Decision Making Authority Authority to suspend or stop unsafe work. Approve corrective and preventative actions. Determine training and competency requirements. Recommend system and process improvements. Escalate significant incidents to leadership or regulators. Key Outcomes WHS and compliance systems effectively implemented. Incident rates reduced through proactive management. Strong engagement with safety processes. Accurate and up-to-date licensing and training records. Ongoing safety performance improvement. Qualifications, Skills & Experience Qualifications Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (or willingness to obtain). CPR/LVR, White Card, Working at Heights. Understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 systems. Experience 3–5 years in WHS, Compliance, or Operations within electrical, construction, or industrial sectors. Proven WHS systems development and implementation. Audit preparation and regulatory liaison experience. Skills Strong knowledge of electrical safety legislation. Excellent communication and coaching capability. High attention to detail and organisation. Proficiency with platforms such as ServiceM8, SafetyCulture, or Cm3. Analytical mindset with ability to interpret safety data. Compliance & Safety Expectations Ensure compliance with WHS and environmental legislation. Promote a safety-first culture. Maintain and update WHS documentation. Support internal and external audit processes. Lead by example with safe behaviours and continuous improvement.
