Your role Nurse Unit Manager 4 – Medical Oncology (Ward 3A) Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Fixed Term, Full-time (Parental Leave Cover) Contact: Doris Vella – Operations Director – Medical Oncology Phone: Position Summary Position Summary The Nurse Unit Manager is the leader of the nursing team on Ward 3A – a 32-bed acute inpatient unit dedicated to complex medical oncology needs. In this role you will champion evidence-based, patient-centred care, foster a positive team culture, drive innovation and ensure safe, high-quality patient care. You will also manage financial resources, support professional development and champion quality initiatives. Key Responsibilities Lead and inspire the nursing team on Ward 3A, providing day-to-day guidance and support. Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic, world-class patient care. Oversee the delivery of exceptional, compassionate care to a diverse patient population. Manage clinical care across a variety of oncology treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy. Champion continuous quality improvement, focusing on patient safety, outcomes and satisfaction. Mentor and develop nursing staff, helping them to grow and reach their full potential. Monitor KPIs and manage financial performance for Ward 3A, ensuring efficient resource allocation, cost management and alignment with budgetary targets while maintaining high-quality patient care. Qualifications Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting, ideally within oncology. Strong oncology nursing knowledge, including experience in chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy. Excellent communication skills and the ability to create a collaborative, patient-centred environment. A genuine passion for advancing oncology care, with a focus on learning and development. An proven ability to lead with confidence in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Experience in leading quality and safety initiatives, driving continuous improvement in clinical care. Critical Thinking and Decision Making: Make timely, informed decisions; gather adequate information for decision-making; utilize analysis tools to identify root workplace issues; consult widely for decision-making; consider critical factors in complex decisions; make effective decisions within specified timeframes. Key Relationships Internal: Operations Directors, Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Director of Nursing, Nurse Unit Managers, clinical staff, support services staff, Consultants, Medical Oncologists, Registrars and HMOs, People and Culture team, Patients and Carers, Access Team, Infection Prevention and Diseases, Cancer Imaging, Wards / Departments / Units, Transport Department, Allied Health Staff, Nurse Consultants across the precinct, Palliative Care, Clinical Products Advisor. External: General Practitioners, Primary Health Providers, Community Health, Hospitals, Aged Care Facilities, Palliative Care Services, Rehabilitation providers.
