Chisholm is seeking an experienced Equitable Learning and Disability Support Advisor. Fixed term position on offer to backfill parental leave. 1.0 FTE, fixed‑term parental leave backfill until July 2026 Salary: $76,302 p.a. plus superannuation Location: Berwick About The Role The position is accountable for ensuring students with a disability, long‑term illness, and/or mental health condition are actively and positively included in all aspects of Chisholm life and can participate equally with other students. This role provides direct support to students and primary caregivers through appointments, class talks, presentations, workshops, resource creation, and support to educators to meet the needs of the student body and deliver a proactive and reactive service across Chisholm. The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Student Support and Engagement team and provides expertise to colleagues across the organisation, students and external support service providers. The position also requires the astute handling of sensitive, complex and demanding scenarios involving multiple stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Include Act as a thought leader and specialist context‑relevant problem‑solver to support delivery departments and improve the student experience. Mentor, coach, monitor and support team members and staff to apply best practice methods and support to students with a disability, long‑term illness and/or mental health condition. Provide advice and guidance to Chisholm community in relation to any disability, long‑term illness and/or mental health condition‑related query and potential impacts of these on study. Liaise with Chisholm staff to ensure reasonable adjustments are implemented in line with the Disability Standards for Education. Provide support and advice in line with Disability Standards for Education. Assist students with a disability, long‑term illness and/or mental health condition and primary carers by recommending reasonable adjustments (including equitable assessment arrangements) which aim to provide equitable/inclusive access. Coordinate and facilitate targeted social connection groups (e.g., initiatives for neurodiverse students, carers etc.), fostering belonging, peer connection, and inclusive community engagement across the student experience. Provide teaching areas with informal professional development and suggest strategies which will enhance Chisholm’s capacity to respond ethically and appropriately to the learning needs of students with disability, long‑term illness and/or mental health condition in the overall context of equity and social justice legislation. Identify and source solutions to educator and delivery department problems in the form of theoretical, methodical and practical advice and support services as a proactive support measures. Liaise with representatives of Government Departments and external agencies as required to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Maintain professional contact with disability support staff across the VET/TAFE sector and contribute to appropriate networks, such as the TAFE Disability Network (TDN) to keep abreast of new initiatives. About You Extensive experience working in the field of equity and diversity, including an understanding of relevant legislation. Extensive knowledge of and commitment to anti‑discrimination and equal opportunity legislation, particularly as it applies to people with disabilities. Well‑developed communication and liaison skills applied in the context of supporting the learning needs of students with disabilities. Appropriate understanding of the policy and legislative settings relating to the provision of support to students with disabilities. Qualifications required for the role Post‑secondary qualification, degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience.
