Medical Laboratory Technician – Microbiology NSW Health Pathology is seeking a Temporary Part‑time Technical Officer to work with the Microbiology team at Lismore Base Hospital. Microbiology is a key department in our Pathology Laboratory, servicing Lismore Base Hospital and the Northern Rivers Community. The role offers the opportunity to work in one of the largest regional laboratories in the state. Eligible for a Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme allowance of up to $4,200 per annum plus super Accrued days off in addition to annual leave Generous salary packaging options and other fringe benefits Corporate well‑being programs, including the Fitness Passport Learning and development opportunities, including in‑house training with RTO My Health Learning What You’ll Be Doing Perform microbiological diagnostic investigations, technical and scientific tasks using established methods and procedures as directed by the Senior Scientist in‑charge. The position involves participation in a 7‑day rotating roster and on‑call roster. Qualifications and Experience Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Laboratory Technology or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a relevant discipline, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, patient systems and quality systems Ability to work responsibly and efficiently, managing competing priorities to meet deadlines Ability to work in a team while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes Customer‑focused approach with well‑developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills Initiative, problem‑solving and analytical skills, including the ability to apply established principles and investigate and resolve general and complex issues in the laboratory Commitment to quality management principles and continuous quality improvement, identifying, developing and implementing quality and service improvement activities Vaccination against specified diseases at their own cost prior to appointment. This is a Category A position.
