Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist in Charge of Section - Microbiology Employer: NSW Health Pathology Employment Type: Temporary Full Time (up to January 2027, potential for ongoing employment) Position Classification: Senior Hospital Scientist in Charge of Section Remuneration: $116,905.56 - $123,940.80 per annum plus superannuation Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: REQ Location: Lismore Base Hospital Applications Close: 1 December 2025 About The Opportunity NSW Health Pathology is seeking a temporary Senior Hospital Scientist to lead the Microbiology team at our Lismore laboratory. Microbiology is a key department of any pathology laboratory, and by joining our dynamic team you will work in one of the largest regional laboratories in the state, servicing Lismore Base Hospital and the Northern Rivers Community. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services, human resource, business and resource management. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution. Customer‑focused approach, well‑developed interpersonal skills, and strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems. Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting. Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems, including supervision of e‑based quality management systems. Extensive high‑level knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory, with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory. Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment, including work health and safety and privacy requirements.
