Our state‑of‑the‑art laboratory specialises in the morphological examination of a broad range of leukaemias, lymphomas and haematological disorders and includes paediatric morphology, Kleihauer testing, urinary haemosiderin and malarial parasite screening. We also provide essential scientific supervision for our Category B laboratories across Northern Sydney and Northern NSW, which includes providing training, education, investigating incidents and providing corrective and preventive actions. At our laboratory, professional development is a priority – we actively support training, education and career progression. The Haematology laboratory is located on Level 5 in the Acute Services Building of Royal North Shore Hospital, a short 4‑minute walk from St Leonards train station and easily accessible by public transport. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services, human resource, business and resource management. Qualifications and experience Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science, Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution. Extensive high‑level knowledge working in a Morphology laboratory, including operation and maintenance of analytical equipment. Demonstrated experience in training and educating staff in identifying a range of cell populations. Customer‑focused approach with well‑developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including report writing and statistical evaluation of scientific data. Demonstrated understanding of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems. Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting. Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems, including supervision of e‑based Quality Management Systems. Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment, including work health and safety and privacy requirements.
