Senior Data Engineer

Base pay range: A$200,000.00/yr - A$270,000.00/yr Short‑term contract: 6‑month day rate, hybrid working (3 days in office). About the Role A financial services client is seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong Databricks/Spark capability and broad exposure across cloud, DevOps and modern data tooling. The role is within a regulated financial services environment, working on high‑volume, business‑critical data used across trading, risk, finance and regulatory reporting. Typical Day Work within an AWS cloud environment, leveraging Databricks for data warehousing, SQL for data extraction and transformation and Python for building and automating pipelines Implement Airflow as the orchestration tool to schedule, monitor and manage workflows Enhance the Databricks platform, evaluating alternative technical pathways Build reusable components, processes and frameworks across the data engineering lifecycle Develop ETL / transformation pipeline framework Design automated release flows with quality gates Contribute to the disaster recovery and resilience framework, ensuring recoverability of critical datasets Support automation, scalability and operational uplift across the data platform Work closely with engineering leadership to shape solutions that span multiple tools Enhance the data platform that feeds regulatory obligations (APRA, ASIC, Basel, liquidity reporting) Uplift automation across ingestion, transformation and release processes for risk, finance and market data pipelines About You Minimum 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering roles Strong engineering fundamentals, ideally Software Engineering / Computer Science background MUST HAVE EXTENDED EXPERIENCE within financial services Proficiency in Databricks / Spark , AWS , SQL and Python Hands‑on experience implementing Airflow or similar orchestration tools Broad technical exposure across multiple systems, tools and cloud environments Experience with DevOps / CI‑CD (Bitbucket, GitLab) Strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines and modern data architecture patterns Familiarity with data governance, security and performance optimisation practices Exposure to financial services environments is a plus but not essential Curious, driven and innovative – constantly seeking ways to improve and modernise infrastructure Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident Payment & Contract 6‑month day rate contract, hybrid working – 3 days in office.
