The Role The role of the AIEO is to improve the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Islander students by ensuring they receive the educational and cultural support they need to feel welcome, respected, understood and cared for and giving them the skills to achieve academically to the best of their abilities. AIEOs assist and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, particularly those at risk, through mentoring and pastoral care to ensure their participation and achievement in the school environment. AEIOs make an important contribution to student progress and achievement through the development and maintenance of positive relationships between staff, students, parents and the community. They facilitate school and family connections and work closely with students to support student wellbeing, attendance and engagement. To be suitable for this role, you will be reliable and flexible, while providing support and effective assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/guardians, teachers, the school and the community through the knowledge, understanding and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, language and culture. Part of the role of the successful applicant will be to act as a liaison between the community and the school in order to develop an education program that is relevant to both educational and cultural needs.
