The school has been serving the community for more than 40 years, evolving from Yanchep Primary to Yanchep District High School and, since 2018, Yanchep Lagoon Primary School. The Role Yanchep Lagoon Primary School is seeking a permanent, enthusiastic and dedicated Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join our team. As an AIEO you will be well‑organised, reliable, and flexible whilst providing support and assistance to Aboriginal students, their parents/guardians, teachers, and the broader community through the knowledge, understanding, and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. You will be passionate about enabling Aboriginal students to achieve success as Aboriginal people and will provide a safe, supportive environment for them. Ability to work well both individually and in teams, achieving positive outcomes for students and families, will be highly regarded. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members and assist teachers to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ needs. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of culturally responsive education programmes and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
