Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer Join to apply for the Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer role at Department of Education, Western Australia . This is a permanent part‑time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 1 2026 at Yanchep Lagoon Primary School. The school has been serving the community for more than 40 years, evolving from Yanchep Primary to Yanchep District High School and, since 2018, Yanchep Lagoon Primary School. The Role Yanchep Lagoon Primary School is seeking a permanent, enthusiastic and dedicated Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join our team. As an AIEO you will be well‑organised, reliable, and flexible whilst providing support and assistance to Aboriginal students, their parents/guardians, teachers, and the broader community through the knowledge, understanding, and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. You will be passionate about enabling Aboriginal students to achieve success as Aboriginal people and will provide a safe, supportive environment for them. Suitable applicants should display a strong link to Aboriginal culture and establish positive working relationships with families and the local community. Ability to work well both individually and in teams, achieving positive outcomes for students and families, will be highly regarded. Eligibility Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid visa with the relevant work rights for the term of appointment. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the histories, languages, social and cultural protocols of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members and assist teachers to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ needs. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of culturally responsive education programmes and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
