Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer Permanent part‑time (0.4 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2026 East Waikiki Primary School (PS) in Cooloongup, Western Australia, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join our dynamic team. Role Overview The AIEO supports teachers in delivering planned education programs and creates a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The role acts as a liaison between the community and the school, develops culturally relevant educational programs, mentors and provides pastoral care, and offers support and advice to staff on managing students at risk. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in implementing education programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Develop and maintain strong relationships with community members and families. Provide mentoring and pastoral care to support student participation and achievement. Design and implement behaviour management plans. Maintain accurate records and provide information to parents. Facilitate community contributions to school policy development on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Conduct interviews or home liaison visits and manage class resources. Prepare and maintain the learning environment. Qualifications & Experience Evidence of knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, languages, cultures, and protocols. Experience in culturally responsive strategies that support wellbeing, engagement, and learning. Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with students, parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members. Demonstrated ability to build culturally safe environments. Effective organisational skills for delivering education programs and evaluating outcomes. Eligibility Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid visa with relevant work rights. Valid Working With Children Check. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and possession of a current Screening Clearance Number.
