Youth Officer – Reiby Youth Justice Centre (Campbelltown) NSW Department of Communities and Justice is inviting applications for the Youth Officer position at the Reiby Youth Justice Centre, located in Airds near Campbelltown. Key Details Availability: Casual, Temporary, or ongoing full‑time positions. Shift work covering 24/7 (including nights and weekends). Paid training and development: 5 weeks of full‑time induction training. Salary: $71,777‑$80,129 p.a. About Youth Justice NSW Youth Justice NSW, a division of the Department of Communities and Justice within the Stronger Communities NSW cluster, supervises and provides custodial and community‑based services for young offenders under the Children (Detention Centres) Act, 1987. About Reiby Youth Justice Centre Reiby Youth Justice Centre, located at Airds near Campbelltown, accommodates up to 55 young people. It serves females aged 10‑21 and males under 15 on control orders or remand, and also includes a unit for young males with extreme behavioural problems. The Waratah Unit provides pre‑release training for up to 10 residents. The Role Youth Officers supervise and work with young people in secure residential units. The role involves shift work (including nights, weekends, and public holidays), frontline support, and direct interaction with young offenders across NSW. As a Youth Officer You Will Supervise young people in custody and ensure all needs (health, hygiene and wellbeing) are met. Respond to challenging situations. Maintain a safe and secure environment for residents and staff. Proactively avert risk and solve problems. Model positive behaviour and reinforce boundaries. Work in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Follow a structured routine and help young people adjust by role‑modeling expectations. Communicate effectively and find common ground with others. Remain calm under high‑pressure situations. Be energetic and enjoy working as part of a team. Facilitate and participate in programs to develop skills of young people. Manage conflict in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment. Be resilient and flexible in approaches to working with others. Requirements Of The Role Meet citizenship or residency requirements. Possess a minimum Provisional 2 NSW driver’s licence. National Background Police Check. Medical and fitness assessment to demonstrate fitness for duties. NSW Working with Children Check clearance. Possession or willingness to obtain a ‘Provide First Aid Certificate’ (HLTAID011). Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Availability to complete 5 weeks of full‑time training (Induction Training and Assessment Program – ITAP). Next intake begins March 2026. Pass all assessments during the initial 5 weeks of training to be declared ready for entry‑level duties.
