Position Classification: Staff Specialist Employment Type: Permanent Part Time Hours Per Week: Up to 24 About The Role You will provide clinical management and treatment of inpatients and outpatients within the General Consultation Liaison Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital. The consultant will work with a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure comprehensive mental health assessments on patients in a range of settings covered by general Consultation Liaison. This allows early identification of any underlying psychiatric or substance use disorder that may have contributed to injuries and illnesses to be identified and appropriately managed, as well as identification and treatment of acute stress reactions and early identification and treatment for any emerging psychiatric conditions such as post‑traumatic stress disorder, depression or anxiety disorders. The consultant will also participate in the in‑hours backup roster for mental health services across RNSH and community mental health, and the out‑of‑hours on‑call roster for Psychiatry Staff Specialists for RNSH and Ryde Mental Health. Purpose of the Position You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained substantial specialist pathways. Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered. Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Psychiatry Consultant including a demonstrated interest in and experience in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry in general hospital settings. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. This includes demonstrated capacity for involvement in education, training, supervision and liaison in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry across a variety of professional disciplines and settings. Preparedness to participate in any on‑call service, including on‑call rosters already existing or established. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical governance processes.
