Full-time, Contract, Part time, Casual/Temporary A Senior Investigator with the Legal Services Commission is part of the Professional Conduct team responsible for assessing, investigating, and reviewing complaints and recommending what action the Commissioner should take on those complaints, as well as assisting with preparations for prosecution or other enforcement action. Investigations involve conduct occurring in private law practices and in relation to unlawful operators. Experience in investigative operations is essential. The ability to share experience, lead teams and train staff in key investigative techniques will be required. Key Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, conduct and review investigations about the conduct of lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators and provide high level advice to the Commissioner recommending what action should be taken on those complaints to a standard that withstands independent review. Communicate clearly, accurately and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including team members, senior members of the legal profession and their clients, as well as consumers of legal services who have a limited understanding of the legal system and process. Manage stakeholders' expectations and demands appropriately. Identify relevant issues in complex complaints and potential complaints against lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators, to make sound recommendations regarding appropriate courses of action in respect of such complaints and ensuring that any analysis or conclusions are of a high standard. Identify evidentiary requirements and contribute to the preparation and execution of any necessary investigations, site inspections, search warrants or other coercive powers where appropriate. Contribute to the preparation and prosecution of discipline applications and other enforcement action before the disciplinary bodies and courts. Contribute to the training and mentoring of other staff of the Commission. Manage your own work responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner, provide a high level of written communication and record keeping skills as well as work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment but with the capacity to work independently. Work flexibly to provide back-up and coverage across other duties relevant to the assessment, investigation and prosecution of matters, particularly given the small office environment of the Commission. Model professional and ethical behaviour and act in accordance with the Queensland Public Service legislative framework and Code of Conduct. Qualifications and Experience High level analytical and problem solving skills in the conduct of complex and/or sensitive investigations and the use of coercive powers. Ability to isolate relevant issues, and exercise sound judgment in determining and applying the appropriate legislation, case law and professional standards whilst incorporating a thorough knowledge of the concepts of natural justice and procedural fairness. This will include being able to think critically, objectively question, analyse, interpret, evaluate what you read, hear and collect as evidence, and make justifiable decisions. Proven ability to lead in a professional services environment, supported by a record of achievement in delivering high quality performance outcomes and customer service, and manage a range of projects with conflicting timeframes. Expertise in professional conduct regulatory functions, investigatory and / or legal practice management, including the ability to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures. High level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
