Position: Grade 2 - Genetic Scientist Position type: Fixed term full-time (12 months) Location: Collingwood Closing date: Friday 2 January 2026 Melbourne Pathology is one of Victoria’s largest diagnostic pathology laboratories, committed to providing high quality healthcare throughout metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria, and interstate. A great opportunity exists for an experienced Grade 2 Genetic Scientist to join the new lab services at the Department of Molecular Genetics and Genomics. The preferred candidate will be highly motivated and self‑driven, with suitable molecular genetics skills and experience. This is a fixed term full‑time position (12 months), Monday to Friday, commencing early 2026. Responsibilities Involved in molecular genetics testing at Melbourne Pathology, covering paediatric genomics, genetic carrier screening, and somatic testing. Develop new methodologies and perform established molecular tests. Carry out sample preparation, assay execution and validation. Analyse and interpret results and produce written reports. Requirements BSc, BSc(Hons), BAppSc, MSc (Genetics major preferred), or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years full‑time employment at a NATA‑accredited clinical laboratory. Demonstrated experience in a wide range of molecular genetics or genomics techniques. Ability to evaluate, initiate and develop new applicable laboratory procedures. Preparation of documents and maintaining protocols in adherence to NATA/NPAAC/ISO requirements. Proven ability in genetic analysis and test reporting. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment. Impeccable attention to detail and degree of accuracy. Effective communication and report writing skills.
