Junior Draftsperson

We are currently seeking a Junior Steel Draftsperson to join our growing team in Western Sydney. Steel Builders welcomes applicants who have recently graduated from a Drafting/Detailing course. We are looking for a candidate who has a drive to learn and a positive attitude. This role is ideal for a detailer who is building their technical skills and wants to learn from an experienced, supportive team. You will work closely with senior detailers and other departments to produce accurate steel shop drawings and schedules that support the successful delivery of residential construction projects. You will be given opportunities to develop your detailing capability, gain exposure to customer interactions, and contribute to a collaborative team environment guided by Steel Builders’ values: Customer | Innovate | Accountability | Team | Safety. Key Responsibilities Prepare and update steel shop drawings under the guidance of senior detailers Assist with performing quality checks on drawings and documentation Work with the detailing team to meet project timelines and deliverables Respond to RFIs and drawing-related queries with support from senior staff Support the investigation of site issues and help provide detailing solutions Maintain accurate drawing files and contribute to record-keeping for project documentation Communicate professionally with internal teams, builders, and site supervisors as needed Participate in ongoing training, mentoring, and skill-development activities Contribute to a safe, efficient, and positive team environment About You You are an enthusiastic and detail-focused individual who is a recent graduate or is coming to the end of a Drafting/Detailing course. You enjoy problem-solving, learning new skills, and working in a fast-paced and supportive environment. You will also bring: Basic to intermediate skills in steel detailing software (e.g., Tekla, AutoCAD, or equivalent) A solid understanding of residential construction drawings and terminology Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn from experienced professionals Good communication skills and a proactive, team-oriented mindset A commitment to producing accurate work and meeting deadlines Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) Ability to manage time effectively and work autonomously Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills Proficiency in reading and interpreting structural plans Knowledge of steel fabrication and manufacturing processes Why Join Steel Builders?
