The Australian Wool Testing Authority Limited (AWTA) is the largest wool testing organisation in the world. As a consolidated group, AWTA comprises of 3 operating divisions in Australia (AWTA Raw Wool, AWTA Product Testing and Agrifood Technology) employing nearly 400 people, with laboratories in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. AWTA also owns a laboratory in New Zealand and is a 50 : 50 partner in a Joint Venture facility in JinAo, China. The Position We have an exciting, full-time opportunity for a China Relations Manager to join our team based in Kensington, VIC. China has increasingly become an important export destination for Australian wool and hence, AWTA test certificates. China imports approximately 80% of the Australian wool clip and accounts for the vast majority of early stage wool processing worldwide. As such, maintaining strong contact with Chinese wool processors is vital both for the Australian wool industry and for AWTA. The position contributes to AWTA achieving its objectives by planning and conducting promotional and liaison activities for Chinese companies directly involved in wool processing or in some way influential in the wool chain. This includes importers, processors, government agencies and support organisations. Key accountabilities Representing AWTA at seminars and conferences in Australia and China, including IWTO and CWTA conferences; Acting as an interpreter for AWTA staff and other groups, as required; Providing advice and assistance to Chinese mills, where possible, on matters relating to AWTA and the Australian wool industry; Maintaining open and strong relationships with Chinese wool industry participants; Identifying and meeting key Chinese government and semi-government representatives who can influence the use of Australian wool and AWTA Ltd test certificates; Providing information and support to the China Wool Textile Association and the Nanjing Wool Market; Assisting Chinese customers who visit Australia, particularly ensuring they visit AWTA laboratories; Supplying timely and relevant information in Chinese via the AWTA website and Company publications; and Supporting the Managing Director and other AWTA staff in the Company’s China activities across all AWTA Divisions. Skills, Knowledge and Competencies Excellent English and Chinese communication skills, both written and verbal; Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, preferably including demonstrated management of Chinese and Australian business / trade relations; Ability to produce work in a timely and accurate manner; Demonstrated work experience with, or solid understanding of, trade relations between China and Australia; Degree relevant to the Position is preferred, plus a minimum 5 years' relevant work experience (or minimum 8 years' relevant work experience in the absence of a relevant degree).
