We manage analytical data models and pipelines across finance, growth, product analysis, customer analysis, sales and marketing. We maintain Atlassian’s unified data lake that enables insightful analysis of customers, products, operations and interactions. We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer, reporting to the Data Engineering Manager based in Sydney. You’ll enable world‑class engineering practice, drive data approaches, develop backend systems and data models, and help build Atlassian’s data‑driven culture. Responsibilities Partner with product analytics and data science teams to build data solutions that enable deeper insights. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs and architect/build data models, ingestion processes and applications. Add new data sources, code business rules, and create new metrics that support analysts and scientists. Act as the data domain expert across Atlassian products. Own problems end‑to‑end. Handle vague requirements and iterate rapidly. Improve data quality using and enhancing internal tools/frameworks to detect data‑quality issues. Qualifications A BS in Computer Science or equivalent with 5+ years as a Senior Data Engineer or similar. Strong programming skills in Python. Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL. Experience designing data models for optimal storage and retrieval. Experience building scalable pipelines with Spark (SparkSQL), Airflow or similar schedulers. Experience with AWS data services or similar Apache projects (Spark, Flink, Hive, Kafka). Understanding of data engineering tools/frameworks and standards to improve productivity and output quality. Well‑versed in modern software dev practices (Agile, TDD, CI/CD).
