Aboriginal Care Navigator - Alcohol & Other Drugs Employment Type: Temporary Full Time to 30 June 2027 Location: Site Negotiable within Southern NSW Local Health District Position Classification: Dependent on Qualifications Remuneration: Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 – $65.83 – $67.17 per hour Occupational Therapist Social Worker – $58.95 – $60.86 per hour Psychologist – $57.30 – $67.75 per hour Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: REQ Applications Close: 7 December 2025 Interview Details: Scheduled within 10 days of closing What You’ll Be Doing The Aboriginal Care Navigator Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) will assist clients of the AOD service to navigate systems, services and processes that are established between AOD and non‑government, primary care, social support, justice and mental health services to ensure collaboration, and appropriate support at transitional points of care for Aboriginal people. The position will also support clinical teams in the provision of culturally informed assessment and treatment approaches, discharge planning and ensure social, cultural and historical contexts are at the forefront of services offered through AOD. Selection Criteria Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (NB: an applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. Tertiary qualification Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health), or qualifications and current registration with AHPRA for Registered Nurses (a minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience), Occupational Therapist, Psychologists or Welfare Officer with or eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Demonstrated knowledge of substance use issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and experience in AOD/mental health and/or social, emotional or spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal people and their communities. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, safe and connected care to clients and their families and carers in a person centred and holistic manner that promotes self determination. Demonstrated ability in leadership, supervision, training and working effectively in a team. Demonstrated experience in, and understanding of, innovative evidence‑based practices in service planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement. Evidence of a current unrestricted driver’s licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
