First Nations Mental Health Clinician Are you passionate about empowering young people and strengthening First Nations social and emotional wellbeing? We are seeking a dedicated First Nations Mental Health Clinician to join a youth-focused mental health and wellbeing service supporting young people aged 12–25 in the Thornlands community. This role is ideal for an experienced Allied Health professional who brings cultural knowledge, clinical expertise, and a commitment to delivering meaningful, community-informed care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. About the Role This is a full-time fixed term contract until December 2026. As a First Nations Mental Health Clinician, you will deliver culturally safe, evidence-based support through a mix of clinical assessment, therapeutic intervention, care coordination, and community engagement. You will work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate closely with local First Nations communities to ensure young people receive holistic, strengths-based care. The role involves both onsite work in Thornlands and outreach into the community. Key Responsibilities Clinical Support Conduct culturally informed assessments of social, emotional, and mental health needs. Develop, implement and monitor individual treatment and care plans. Provide evidence-based, time-limited psychotherapy aligned with funding requirements. Deliver culturally appropriate, trauma-informed wellbeing support. Coordinate care and facilitate referrals as needed. Ensure youth voice, choice, and empowerment in all therapeutic processes. Community Engagement Lead First Nations engagement strategies and culturally safe program development. Build strong relationships with Elders, community leaders, families, and stakeholders. Support culturally inclusive wellbeing initiatives and health promotion activities. Participate in community events and early intervention programs. Family & Network Involvement Provide psychoeducation to young people and their families or support networks. Facilitate family-inclusive practice where appropriate. Build positive, respectful relationships that support each young person’s goals. Team Contribution & Governance Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes for young people. Maintain accurate documentation, case notes and reporting. Participate in quality improvement, accreditation and professional development activities. Support service delivery improvements and dynamic, mobile service approaches. About You Essential Requirements Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Occupational Therapy (Mental Health), Social Work or Counselling . Current registration with AHPRA, AASW, ACA or PACFA (discipline dependent). Minimum 4 years’ experience supporting young people with varied mental health and wellbeing needs. Must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and/or be accepted by community . Strong cultural knowledge, understanding of First Nations protocols, and awareness of contemporary issues. Demonstrated experience engaging First Nations communities and supporting community-led initiatives. High-level communication skills and ability to build rapport with young people and families. Strong caseload management and record-keeping skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening, vaccination compliance, and a current driver’s licence. Highly Desirable Mental Health Accreditation (for Social Workers or OTs), or progress toward it. What’s on Offer Full-time fixed term role until December 2026. Hourly rate: $46–$53/hr, depending on skills and experience. Salary packaging benefits available.
