The Story Island Project (Tasmania) Incorporated – Hobart TAS The Story Island Project is a Nipaluna/Hobart-based not-for-profit organisation that nurtures the creativity and writing skills of young Tasmanians and celebrates their diverse voices. We run in‑school, creative storytelling workshops where students are empowered to write their unique stories, supported by a team of enthusiastic volunteer mentors. We are looking for an energetic, person‑centred, creative and friendly Volunteer Coordinator, with good IT skills, to work 8 hours per week on Tuesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays, to support our wonderful volunteer mentors in our storytelling workshops. The role includes some attendance at in‑school workshops to support and supervise volunteers, with the rest of the role based at our friendly little office, located at the Kickstart Arts Network, Tasmania's foremost creative & cultural incubator in New Town, Hobart. You'll need… An understanding of Child Safety legislation, and a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration Experience in recruiting, managing and motivating and/or being a volunteer (working in a non-remunerated position), and an understanding of the volunteer environment - both good and bad Ability to organise and run small to medium events; Great communication and interpersonal skills - a genuine, friendly person who likes to work with others, and can build skills in others; Demonstrated organisational and planning skills, including attention to detail, the ability to prioritise tasks and work autonomously; A current driver's licence; It'd be great if you also have… Qualifications in arts or social sciences; Experience working in the arts or a related NFP sector; Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds. What you'll be doing in this job… Recruit and screen prospective volunteer mentors for Story Island; Assisted by the GM and Story Leader, provide induction and training for new volunteers; With the Story Leader, supervise volunteer mentors in their role. This includes attendance at some storytelling workshops, and some one‑to‑one and/or group debriefing and support outside of storytelling workshops; Build and maintain an active community of volunteer mentors through regular communications, volunteer development opportunities and occasional social activities; and Ensure that volunteer mentors comply with relevant child safety legislation and Story Island’s policies and practices. Four weeks pro‑rata paid holiday leave per annum plus applicable public holidays. Superannuation at applicable legislated rates; Sick leave at the standard per annum allowance (pro‑rata).
