Senior Policy Officer - Transport and Infrastructure Local Government Association of Queensland – Brisbane QLD Overview Are you passionate about roads, public transport, aviation, freight, water, wastewater, telecommunications and digital connectivity? Join the Local Government Association Queensland (LGAQ) as a Senior Policy Officer – Transport & Infrastructure and drive policy and advocacy that creates better connected communities. As a Senior Policy Officer for Transport & Infrastructure you will be a team player, establish and maintain strong relationships and use your excellent research, policy analysis and communication skills to represent local governments’ interests and support the delivery of high‑quality advice and outcomes for Queensland councils across a range of policy, program and funding initiatives related to transport and infrastructure including roads, public transport, aviation, freight as well as telecommunications and digital connectivity. This role provides opportunities for travel and will provide support to the Lead – Roads & Transport as well as working in collaboration with the Strategic Policy team and Advocate team more broadly, to enhance LGAQ’s advocacy outcomes. This is a full time role based in Newstead, Qld. Occasional air and road travel is required, including driving a hire vehicle unaccompanied at times. A current Queensland open driver’s licence, with the ability to drive day or night and comply with any licence conditions, is required. Key Responsibilities Work collaboratively to advance local government agreed policy and legislative priorities related to transport and infrastructure, including those articulated through the LGAQ Policy Statement. Provide high level support and take action to progress and track advocacy on relevant motions/resolutions passed at LGAQ Annual Conferences, providing timely updates to councils on advocacy progress. Undertake research and analysis in collaboration with councils and internally, to identify workable options and solutions to relevant policy and legislative reforms. Prepare and contribute to the delivery of high‑quality submissions, briefing notes, policy advice, strategies, reports, presentations and/or other material as required, to advance advocacy outcomes. Support member consultation, engagement and communication processes including through reference/advisory groups, webinars and events, and contributing to campaigns as required. Share information within the LGAQ on relevant policy issues as required, and represent the interests, viewpoints and attitudes of LGAQ and Queensland councils to other spheres of government, the private sector and the community. Provide appropriate information to local governments on existing or emerging policy issues, legislation, programmes and funding opportunities as required. Positively influence the loyalty of our members by participating and working collaboratively in a LGAQ ‘segment’ team. Attend and present at LGAQ events and meetings. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and networks with councils and across all levels of government and key stakeholders as required. Fly and/or drive to member sites or other locations as required. About You Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary issues and challenges for local government related to transport and infrastructure including roads, public transport, aviation, freight, as well as telecommunications and digital connectivity. Proven experience in critiquing and analysing emerging and complex policy issues and legislation, developing new or alternative policy solutions, and/or providing robust policy advice. Proven ability to prepare, coordinate and provide input to high‑quality submissions and policy documents and negotiate successful outcomes. Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and busy environment. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in a related discipline. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, navigate uncertainty, and maintain composure when responding to unexpected challenges or emerging issues. A proactive approach to problem‑solving and a resilient mindset and composure in fast‑paced or high‑pressure situations. An understanding of policy and decision‑making processes across different levels of government. Well‑developed interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), organisational and negotiation skills and the ability to apply these skills in a diverse range of forums and settings. A current Queensland unrestricted open driver’s licence including the ability to drive unaccompanied day or night and comply with licence conditions. Ability to travel as required.
