Scheme Management Group (SMG) contributes to Comcare’s purpose to promote and enable safe and healthy work through excellence in scheme design and management. SMG is insight driven and works with scheme participants to achieve sustainable and better practice national schemes. The Data Engineer will sit within the Chief Data Office (CDO) team which is responsible for ensuring that Comcare takes a mature and sophisticated approach to the management and use of data and works across Comcare to: Deliver better insights through new platforms and capability uplift. Ensure data architecture and data models cater for versatile reporting and analytics needs. Delineate impacts within our data environment to facilitate a better understanding and implementation of effective controls. Create a framework that helps people understand their responsibilities when it comes to data. Embed continuous improvement in process and quality of data captures. Ensure consistency in the description of common data terms. Ensure data is leveraged effectively to solve business problems. Enable data capability gaps to be identified and addressed across Comcare so that Groups can be more self-sufficient in working with data. Overview of the Role The Data Engineer plays a key role in the operationalisation of the data platform to business areas. The Data Engineer will work closely with ICT Engineers, data modellers, data analysts and business areas to develop reusable data patterns in a cloud-based Microsoft Azure environment, for use in reporting, analysis and data science. To be successful in this role, the Data Engineer will be required to communicate effectively between technical and non-technical stakeholders, integrate different types of data across various subject areas, and design, build and test data products including business semantic layers and data and analytics pipelines which integrate data governance and quality assurance practices. This role contributes to Comcare’s priorities and will inform evidence-based decision-making by facilitating data-driven change. This includes supporting on high priority enterprise-wide programs of work including design and integration of new solutions, and other activities which contribute to organisational data maturity uplift. Qualifications and Experience Mandatory:Recent and relevant experience (2 years +) in a data engineering role. Experience working within an Azure cloud data environment Experience developing data pipelines for data visualisation / analysis tools such as Microsoft Power BI. Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check). Employee Health Declaration. Six months probationary period for new engagements.
