Head of Strength and Conditioning

The purpose of the position is to design and implement training programs revolving around the strength, conditioning, power and movement of WPFC athletes to maximize performance and minimize injury. This position will also contribute to the strength rehabilitation program, overseen by the WPFC Head Physiotherapist. They will actively engage athletes in the development of their training program and work in partnership with the Head Coach and Head of Performance/Head of Development to implement a holistic Football program. They will be responsible for university interns as well as the overall S and C environment from 12 under athletes to the Senior Male and Female teams. This person will also manage the AMS system for the club. This role is full time and will involve work on weekends as well as afternoons. It is an exciting new position and one that can shape the future of our football club.

Overiew of Tasks below

The Head of Strength and Conditioning collaborates with both physiotherapy and physical preparation service providers to develop cohesive physical preparation plans.

  • Lead the development, planning and implementation of the physical performance program at WPFC
  • Work in partnership with the coaches to devise and implement a holistic Football program from our 12 under program upwards.
  • Strategic management of the strength, conditioning and recovery programs to maximise performance of the team
  • Implement and manage load monitoring, fitness testing and training protocols
  • In conjunction with the physiotherapy and medical services team, contribute to maximizing athlete availability through effective injury prevention practices, return to play outcomes and minimizing injury recurrence in rehabilitation.
  • Lead physical preparation and recovery procedures on game day.
  • Management and oversight of the sports science program including training load allocation and adherence.
  • Report and maximise the use of athlete management system (AMS)
  • Design and coordination of the weekly training structure to maximise performance of the team.

  • Ability to coach fundamental strength and power exercises emphasising dynamic correspondence, to a high standard.
  • Application of appropriate training methodologies relative to individual growth and maturation stage.
  • Integration and analysis of data sets from multiple sources to facilitate load management.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Candidates for the position will require a range of personal and professional skills including Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Exercise Science (minimum qualification) ideally a master’s degree.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in high performance sport
  • ESSA exercise science accreditation or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop, implement and manage strength, conditioning, recovery and rehabilitation programs for elite athletes
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely, compelling and concise advice to inform and support decision making.
  • ASCA Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach, ideally level 3.
  • Current Drivers’ license
  • Working with Children Check

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge of strength and conditioning theories and best practice related to high performance sports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physiological principles theories and best practice related to high performance sports.
  • Knowledge of the structure and systems associated with high performance sport and the development of elite athletes for success in the national and international arena.
  • Knowledge of the quality assurance process for testing and monitoring in elite sport.
  • Will be able to energise and motivate players to achieve an elite level of performance.
  • Will be able to form strong relationships with athletes and display a high level of coaching to influence behaviours.
  • Will have strong planning and management skills, be highly organised and a good decision maker.
  • Will be able to work independently as well as lead and drive a dynamic team to pursue team goals, share information, support others, show consideration and respect for alternative ideas and solutions
  • Due to the nature of the industry, the ideal candidate must be flexible in their availability as extended hours and weekend work will be required for this role.
