About the opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and energetic Financial Operations Manager to join our busy Finance team. You’ll be working with a diverse team of high performing, committed and enthusiastic people who really care about making a difference for people and the not-for-profit sector.
As Financial Operations Manager you’ll be integral to our team, bridging the gap between the Finance Officer and the Finance Director, providing leadership in operational finance and supporting strategic financial initiatives. In this role you will oversee day-to-day financial operations, assist with all payroll activities, drive process improvements, and ensure compliance and accuracy in all financial activities.
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and your initiative and analytical skills are outstanding. With your high calibre organisation skills, you’ll be essential in knowing what needs to be done, when it needs to be done and then making sure it happens.
Your strong communication and collaboration skills will see you become the ‘go-to person’ for all questions relating to finance and payroll. You will, of course, have a keen eye for detail and a commitment to continuous improvement and quality control.
What we need you to do
- Oversee the month-end closing process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and deliver monthly management reports, including profit and loss, balance sheets, and sales reports.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist with the budgeting and forecasting process, collaborating with stakeholders to provide insights for decision-making.
- Manage credit card reconciliations and compliance with external reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with external accountants regarding year-end and tax compliance.
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Provide financial insights and decision-making support across teams.
- Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
You will have
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and payroll
- High level of proficiency in Xero and Excel (and the wider Microsoft Suite).
- Exceptional organisational skills and a keen eye for detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical skills and lateral thinking skills that drive you to find the best solution.
- High level problem solving and judgement skills

The Financial Operations Manager is a permanent full-time position, reporting to the Finance Director. When in the office, standard business hours are 9am to 5pm Monday – Friday, however, start and finish times are highly flexible. Currently our team is working partially from the office and partially from home or other remote locations (2 days per week).
The Director of Finance will be taking a 12-month parental leave break and during this period the Finance Operations Manager will take on a greater leadership role, supported by external consultants and the Finance Director (as required) for high-level decisions.
To create a better work-life balance, the Our Community team works a 4-day week (pay for 5 days). We deliver 100% of the work in 80% of the time for 100% of the pay. We have high productivity, reduced stress levels, improved mental health and great team cohesion.
The successful candidate
- Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
- Will be required to undertake a Police Check
- Will be subject to a probationary period of three (3) months
