The Position
The Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is responsible for supporting and assisting the CISO in the development and execution of CEA's Cyber Security Strategy. Reporting directly to the Head of IT, while being guided by the CISO, the role ensures the security, integrity, and resilience of CEA's information systems.
The role will lead efforts to mitigate risks, support the alignment of IT and cyber security efforts to business objectives, respond to cyber incidents, improve governance mechanisms and drive a culture of information security across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of the CISO's role requirements as defined in the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Act in the role of CISO if/when delegated during periods of absence / leave.
  • Collaborate with the CISO and Head of IT to assist in the development and execution of the organisation's information security strategy, policies, and procedures to ensure the protection of data, networks, and IT infrastructure in line with relevant industry and government frameworks.
  • Work with the Head of IT to identify and assess risks related to information security. Assist with the development and implementation of the cyber security risk mitigation framework across the organisation. Provide recommendations on best practices for information management across the organisation and within its supply chain.
  • Assist the response to any cyber security incidents and breaches, ensuring timely recovery and minimising potential impact to the business.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian cyber security regulations, industry standards (e.g., ISM, PSPF, DSPF, DISP, GBE), and data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, Australian Privacy Principles).
  • Advise the organisation's Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) functions to ensure the development and implementation of cyber security standards.

About You

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in cyber security, at least 3+ years in a leadership role such as CISO, Deputy CISO, or Information Security Manager is desirable.
  • Strong experience in risk management, incident response, and disaster recovery, including a solid understanding of risk assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of cyber security frameworks, standards, and regulations applicable in Australia (e.g., ISM / ASD Essential 8, ISO 27001, NIST, JSIG RMF).
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring security teams, driving performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an AGSVA clearance (Baseline / NV1/ NV2). The successful candidate MUST be able to obtain clearance prior to commencement (Relevant positions)
  • ITAR (Impacted positions only) - This position requires employees to access equipment and data that is subject to U.S International Traffic and Arms Regulation (ITAR). As such, applicants must disclose the following information at the time of application:
